Mahmood Patel is one of the driving forces behind the development of the audio visual industry in Barbados. He is the Director of the Bridgetown Film Festival http://www.thebridgetownfilmfestival.com/ in which producers from around the world participate. In particular the film festival has given rise to the production and release of a number of indigenous films in Barbados. He has performed the tasks of Director, Writer and Director of Production and lists among his credits "Now or Never", "Una Casa Pa' Maita", "Teranga Blue", "Hit for Six", "The Shoes" and "Stone Houses". He serves on the Executive Committee of the BFVA.

On May 11, 2009 the Barbados Film and Video Association hosted Yvon Thiec www.eurocinema@eurocinema.eu a consultant with the European Union at the Queen's Park Gallery. His mission in Barbados was to have discussions with those in the audio visual sector. He would then move on to Trinidad & Tobago and then Jamiaca. This is a part of the implementation programme for the Economic Partnership Agreement through the BizClim Project. His discussions focussed on regulatory regimes and incentives to support the sector, the Protocol on Cultural Cooperation.

The discussions focussed on a number of recommendations including (i) the development of a database (ii) tax incentives (iii) training (iv) the necessity of having co-production agreements (v) archiving content.

Representatives from the private sector, the Caribbean Broadcasting Cooperation and the University of the West Indies were present for the discussion. The recommendations will be placed in a report which will then be discussed in June in Barbados.
